PESHAWAR: The Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar asked the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and unions to organize the interactive sessions for importers/exporters to educate them about the web based one customs service.
The Customs House Peshawar wants to effectively implement the WebOC service throughout the borders in trade with Afghanistan and Iran to eliminate the risk of losing revenue due to leakages.
The Collector Customs at the MCC Peshawar, Gul Rahman, said this at a meeting with Director Afghan Trade and Transit at Customs House Peshawar on Wednesday in order to know about the real situation of the WebOC customers on borders.
The Collector Customs had also inquired about the situation at Torkham border and Ghulam Khan Customs Check-Post at North Waziristan where exporters of pine nuts called a strike against the announcement to register the trade under Web based one customs service.
The collector expressed concern over the protest of pine nuts exporters throughout the KP and FATA which caused the Customs House Peshawar a loss of millions.
The Collector Customs was informed by the high-ups of the Directorate of Afghan Trade and Transit that the exporters have rejected the call.
The collector further told CT that the problems at Torkham Customs Station are mainly due to limited facilitation provided to carry out the online transactions and transfer of money. The importers and exporters have asked the authorities to provide 12-GB net in order to use WebOC service at Torkham Border while the available facility of internet at Torkham Customs Station is only 2-GB.
The Collector Customs also inquired about the construction of International Trade Terminal at Torkham Border and Ghulam Khan Check-Post on border with Afghanistan upon which the authorities informed the Collector that most of the work has been completed to evaluate plan for construction of International Trade Terminal at Torkham Customs Station for which practical work will start at the end of this year.
The Collector Customs at the Customs House Peshawar has directed the authorities to ensure smooth flow of Afghan Trade and Transit vehicles in order to expand the revenue collection from exports to Afghanistan.
