CCTV cameras at Wagah border need overhauling

LAHORE: Closed-circuit cameras installed at Wagah boder are out of order which could be caused of security risk for land trade route between Pakistan and India.

There are 16 cameras installed at the trade route for surveillance but over 7 cameras are not working properly. On contact with security officials of Wagah border, it was informed that to keep check and balance and other maintenance in this regard is the responsibility of Pakistan Customs.

They added that Pakistan Rangers-Punjab has written a letter to Punjab government and Pakistan Customs to change or repair these cameras. It is pertinent to mention here that Wagah border is a main trade route between Pakistan and India as well sensitive route where tight security and vigilance is required to monitor crossing of shipments.

Earlier in 2014, more than 60 people were died and 100 injured in a suicide blast at Wagah border.
