ISLAMABAD: Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) Chairman Justice (R) Rauf Ahmed Sheikh has asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to auction off the plot allotted to a defunct English daily to compensate its affected staff.
Chairman ITNE Justice (R) Rauf Ahmed Sheikh directed the CDA to submit a report on March, 31 on compliance of the court orders. The chairman warned the CDA that “an action in accordance with the law would be initiated against the delinquent officers if the court orders were not complied with.”
The tribunal on January 1, 2007 while deciding identical petitions of “The Muslim” ordered the CDA to auction off the plot allotted to the newspaper for construction of building and disburse the amount, generated from the auction, among the staff, said a press release issued here.
Initially, the stance of the CDA was that being the purposeful allotment, the plot could neither be auctioned off nor sold out. However, the court after due deliberations directed the CDA that in order to clear the outstanding amount of the staff payable by the newspaper owners, the said plot may be auctioned.
