WARSAW: The National Bank of Poland will release new PLN 500 banknotes in 2017, in response for an increasing demand for high-denomination notes. On Monday, the National Bank of Poland unveiled a new PLN 500 Polish banknote with the image of king John III Sobieski on the obverse.
The central bank plans to circulate the banknotes in February 2017. In recent years, the NBP has noted an increase in the value of currency in circulation and an increased demand for banknotes of high denomination, in particular notes with a nominal value of PLN 200.
The new PLN 500 banknote is a response to this phenomenon and to the increasing costs of maintaining a strategic reserve of cash, the NBP wrote in a statement. The reverse of the note includes an image of the coat of arms of Poland, as well as a drawing of the Łazienki palace in the Polish capital.
