KARACHI: Effective and positive steps taken by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have put an optimistic impact on revenue generation, said Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Nazim Saleem.

Talking exclusively to Customs Today at his office, the chief collector said that reducing concessionary SRO regimes, imposing 1 percent customs duty from zero percent on ship-breaking industry and untiring efforts of the customs officials have played a vital role in generating and achieving desirable targets set by the FBR.
Commenting on the revenue generation, Nazim Saleem said that the collectorate within its limited and available resources has left no stone unturned in improving the revenue status, adding that the automated system and issuance of valuation rulings in a calendar year has also put a positive impact on revenue generation.
“Issuance of valuation rulings in a calendar year from January-2014 onwards put a healthy sign on import and revenue generation,” he added. “The Import Trade Policy (ITP) is also playing an effective role in achieving revenue target during the fiscal year201-15.”
Lauding the efforts of customs officials, the chief collector said that their tireless efforts were also playing a pivotal role in generating revenue, as they worked day and night for achieving revenue target.
Commenting on the oil/diesel smuggling, Muhammad Nazim Saleem said that the collectorate has not received any alert/complaint by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and petroleum dealers in smuggling of oil/diesel in Karachi.
The chief collector said that the MCC-Gwadar has a special focus on anti-smuggling activities of oil/diesel and that is why the smuggling mafia is protesting on Hub-River Road.
To a question, the Enforcement-South chief collector said that the MCC-Gwadar and MCC-Hyderabad in particular and other collectorates of the south region in general are keeping strict vigilance on oil/diesel smuggling and other illegal activities.
Mentioning the current crackdown of MCC-Gwadar and MCC-Hyderabad, the chief collector said that both the collectorates have foiled the smuggling bids and seized illegal narcotics worth millions of rupees during the operations.
The Enforcement Collectorate in the start of the current year had launched a grand operation against the illegal petrol pumps in the vicinity of Karachi and dismantled more than 50 illegal pumps from the District West and District Malir of the city.
