PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has increased property tax in posh locality of the provincial capital from 100 to 200 per cent.

The residents of Hayatabad, addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, rejected the increase in property tax in their locality. They warned the provincial government of launching protest against the ‘unjust’ increase in property tax.

A resident of Hayatabad, Nawab Khattak, said that the PDA had also increased various fees, including violation fee, transfer fee, non-users charges, development, map fees, water and road crossing charges.

The resident said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in general and Peshawar in particular had suffered due to terrorism. Flanked by Sirajul Haq Yousafzai, Ihsanullah, Ali Akbar Afridi, and other residents, Nawab Khattak said that the government should give priority to give monetary relief to terrorism-hit people of the province instead of imposing irrational and unjust taxes on them.

Khattak expressed concern over increase of property tax by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) due to which property transfer fee had been increased substantially.
