OTTAWA:  Three people in Leamington have been charged with several drug-related offences after a two-year joint investigation by several police agencies.

The RCMP alleges the individuals are responsible for illegally smuggling cocaine into Canada and other offences.

“The evidence gathered revealed a criminal group moving large amounts of cocaine from Mexico into Canada,” the RCMP claimed in a news release.

During the investigation, police seized more than two kilograms of cocaine and revealed what it called “advanced camouflage techniques which empowered the cocaine shipments to cross global outskirts.” Several police organizations executed court orders in Leamington on Thursday as a major aspect of the examination.

Three Leamington men, ages 29, 48 and 56, have been charged.

The first two were charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine. All three were charged with conspiracy to kidnap.

Officers with the RCMP, CBSA, OPP and the Chatham-Kent police worked in tandem on the investigation, according to a media release from the RCMP.
