Collector Adjudication Raja Tahir issues notice in seized contraband goods case involving Rs 8m

MULTAN: Collector Customs Adjudication Raja Tahir Majeed served show cause notice on a suspect in seized contraband items case involving Rs 8 million. Majeed has also served notice on driver of the seized vehicle Muhammad Rizwan.

The Customs Intelligence team intercepted a loaded truck with a huge quantity of smuggled cigarettes and chewing tobaccos. The team recovered 252 cartons of Royal Business cigarettes of England origin and 250 cartons of Ashima cigarettes of Switzerland origin during the operation. Customs teams also found 150 kilograms of Indian origin chewing tobacco namely Pan Parag from the loaded truck. The loaded truck was coming from Quetta and was going to Lahore for delivery.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range office have seized the truck and loaded smuggled goods by forming a seizure report on the violation of section 10-A 89 (1)and 156 (1) of the Customs act under section 156(1) 89 of the Customs Act 1969.

Customs Intelligence submitted a contravention report against the seized goods for the hearing of the seizure case in the Customs Adjudication. The value of the seized goods and loaded truck was Rs 8 million and their duty taxes were Rs 5 million.

However, Collector Customs Adjudication has directed the accused to file reply on next date of hearing for the trial of the seizure case.

Furthermore, hearing date of the said seizure case will be fixed very soon for the proceeding of the seizure case formed by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office.
