MULTAN: Under the dynamic leadership of Collector Imran Sajjad Bokhari and Additional Collector Shah Faisal Sahu, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs369.94 million during Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) conducted during the month of February 2024. This notable haul reflects a substantial 22pc increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.
The seized items, comprising carrier vehicles, non-duty paid vehicles, betel nuts, food items, cigarettes, mobile phones, and various miscellaneous goods, underscore the persistent challenge posed by illicit trade networks in the region. With a remarkable 340% surge in the number of cases, authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle smuggling operations and curb unlawful commercial Customs Anti-Smuggling Teams impounded almost 48 non-duty paid vehicles of Rs.205 million during their intensive crackdown in the territory.
In addition to enforcement measures, administrative strategies such as auctions, currency deposits, and confiscations have contributed to revenue generation, amounting to Rs61.51 million for the Multan Collectorate. Furthermore, Customs Anti-Smuggling Squads and airport officials have been instructed to enhance surveillance and intercept illegal movements of essential commodities, Iranian petroleum products, currency, precious metals, and mobile phones.
