Collector Irfan Javed’ s Quetta Customs registers 258pc increase in value of seizure cases

QUETTA: Under the supervision of Collector Irfan Javed, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement and Compliance showed outstanding performance during the month of June.

During the month of June, The Collectorate has embarked upon a proactive approach to bring tangible, quantitative & qualitative results. Resultantly, there has been a substantial improvement in the performance of the Collectorate and a number of initiatives have been taken in a short span of time.

  1. There has been a 258 percent increase in value of seizures in June 2020 viz-a-viz June 2-19. In June 2019, the value of seizures was Rs182.45 million whereas they substantially increased in June 2020 to Rs651.61 million. It is imperative to mention that this quantum of seizures is higher than any other month of financial year 2019-20 (except November 2019) and is much higher than the monthly target of Rs340 million.
  2. Mobile squads have been activated with strict instruction of vigilance, transparency and efficiency. Mobile squads had remained inactive during Financial Year 2019-20. The last orders for active independent moble squads were made vide order 01/(06)/admn/2017 dated 12.4.2019.
  3. Last auction of goods was conducted on 29.2.2020. Subsequently no auction was held from February-June, 2020. However, in order to liquidate stuck up government revenue three auctions have been held during the month of June, 2020 on 10.6.2020, 17.6.2020 & 24.6.2020, thereby bringing in considerable revenue.

4.I           n order to address the issue of rationalization of reserve prices letters to Collector Appraisement & Facilitation and director Intelligence and Investigation have been written with the request to form a committee duly headed by an additional collector and consisting of representatives of collectorates and directorate of Intelligence and Investigation for transparency.

  1. Meetings with Inspector General of Police, Balochistan, inspector-General Frontier Corps Baluchistan and Chief Secretary Baluchistan have been held. Consequently as an immediate step, official of Quetta Collectorate have been nominated for joint anti-smuggling operation with police.
  2. Furthermore, Commandant, Frontier Corps Battle School, Quetta have been requested to train newly recruited customs sepoys vide letter C.No. 02 (05)/admin/2017 dated 24.6.2020. This training is being reinitiated for 2017.
