The FBR expressed worries over the loss of revenue to the national exchequer from stranded vehicles across the border and also shortfall in the trade activities of the transporters.

The FC and Political Authorities have decided to increase the time periods by adding two hours on daily basis to allow the vehicles to cross the border.

During the remaining days of Ramazan, Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham will remain open on both sides after Iftar for two extended hours up to 10:00 p m at night.

The sources said the FBR officials informed the administration that almost 1,300 cargo vehicles laden with mineral coal and other import cargo are waiting to cross the border to Pakistan for which the government of Pakistan needs to prepare an appropriate plan.

Qurban Ali Khan said it is expected that this would not only clear the backlog of stranded cargo on the border but will also facilitate the trader community and ensure maximum revenue generation in the last month of FY2016-17.

With the cargo containers laden with goods remain stranded on the other side of the border in Afghanistan and cause problem to meet the target in revenue collection for the current month.

It’s important to mention that due to war on terror along the border in Afghanistan, Pakistan Customs works to stop the entry of unidentified nationals of both countries.
