FAISALABAD: Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig has delivered lectures to the participants of senior management course and told the visiting officers about the structure and jurisdictions of the Model Customs Collectorate and the working of Faisalabad Dry Port Trust.
Collector Mubashir Baig briefed the officers about functional operation, aspects concerned with the public service delivery and the topic of Web-Based One Customs (WeBOC), major function of jurisdiction areas, export commodities, Red Channel, Green Channel, Yellow Channel, Export oriented unit (EOU) under SRO, DTRE Users, major parts of the airport customs staff and major issues of the Faisalabad Dry Port Trust.
The collector also elaborated the ways and means to eradicate the culture of WeBOC is an interactive system and works in a completely paperless manner. In case an assessment or examination is required on some occasion. The same are done online and each operation is also reported to the trader online.
It is important to mention here that examinations are done by the Customs with the assistance of the terminal operators and at no stage the importers and exporters or their clearing agents are required to come to the port as was the case previously. Similarly the traders or their agents are not required to come to Customs House for the processing of documents which was a norm in the erstwhile manual system.
The aim of the lectures is to enable senior officers and to understand factors bearing on formulation and implementation to preparing them for assignments at national policy level. This lectures and training workshops groom the senior officers for the future in order to tackle services issues.
Collector Mubashir said that the Collectorate of Customs Faisalabad was established in 1965 the jurisdiction was districts of Jhang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Chiniot, Sara-e-Muhajir, Khushab, Faisalabad and areas of jurisdiction.
He said that Collectorate had enhanced anti-smuggling efforts increased number of staff and vehicles adding that the Customs Collectorate is also inducted fresh human resources whereas the Collectorate made a liaison with Motorway Police, National Highway Authority and local police for joint Seizures.
The participants of course raised various queries pertaining to doing business in Karachi, role of KCCI, law and order situation, and how business community of Karachi will react if Pakistan grants MFN status to India, which were wisely responded by the office bearers.
During their visit Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad, Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamadani, Fazal Mehmood, Ameer Ahmed and members of managing committee were also present on the occasion.
