LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA) conducted a major intelligence-based operation, successfully seizing smuggled goods worth millions of rupees.
The action was taken against passengers arriving from international destinations carrying undeclared goods, including a substantial quantity of medicines and saffron.
The operation was led by Collector Customs Tayyaba Kayani, who acted on secret intelligence reports regarding the illegal transportation of high-value items.
Under her directives, the Customs Enforcement Team, including Deputy Collector Mudassir Rafiq, Superintendent Saeed Randhawa, Inspectors Faheem and Aamir, and security personnel Saklain, Faiqa Younis, and Lady Constables, intercepted multiple flights. These included PK-860 from Jeddah, PK-411 from Dubai, and SV-734 of Saudi Airlines.
During the search, a significant amount of unreported medicines and saffron were discovered, hidden in passenger luggage to evade customs duties and legal procedures. The total estimated value of the seized contraband is in the millions, making it one of the largest recent crackdowns on smuggling through the airport.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter, with ongoing inquiries to identify and apprehend the key individuals behind the smuggling attempt. The detained suspects are currently being questioned to uncover further links in the network.
Customs officials have reiterated their commitment to curbing smuggling activities, ensuring that Lahore Airport remains under strict vigilance to prevent the illegal movement of goods. The operation underscores the authorities’ determination to protect the national economy and enforce trade regulations effectively.
