KARACHI: Collector of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has written a letter to Secretary Inland Revenue Services (IRS) for clearance of confusion on HS Code 1209 and 1207, it was learnt here on Tuesday.

The impeccable sources informed Customs Today that Mr Saleem in order to clear the confusion on clearance the consignments under HS Code 1209 and 1207 has written letter to Secretary Inland Revenue Services in which he adopted the view point that the HS Code 1209 and 1207 related to the vegetable seeds for sowing need prompt attention of the authorities concerned, as the consignments have been cleared at lower values due to confusion on HS Code 1209 and 1207.

“In the letter, Collector Saleem adopted the view point that the authorities concerned of Inland Revenue Services (IRS) should clear the confusion regarding the HS Code in clearance of vegetable seeds for sowing, so that the Customs authorities would clear the consignments as per the appropriate value and guideline prescribed by the IRS authorities,” sources added.

They were revealed that the confusion has been raised over the clearance of the consignments belonging to vegetable seeds as HS Code linked with those consignments i.e. 1207 and 1209 are very much close to each other as far as the values are concerned. “The said practice in clearance of vegetable seeds for sowing due to HS Code issue put a negative impact on national exchequer,” sources disclosed.
