Contraband cannulas’ 24,000 boxes seized by ASO Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive, has impounded foreign origin non-duty-paid six smuggling cartons each of VASOCATH ADVANT 40 boxes each of IV catheter CANNULAS’ 24,000 boxes made in Singapore valued at Rs1.2million during an action at a customs checkpost of Jacobabad-Sukkur division during two weeks of August 2017-18. The smuggling items were being transported into Pakistan.

Collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Hyderabad Akhlaq Ahmed Khattaq directed that smuggling attempts be thwarted in the region. Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of foreign origin non-duty- items.

He formed a team comprising ASO Customs Preventive Sukkur In-Charge checkpost Aziz Ahmed Katpar, Inspector Nasrullah Gilal, Inspector Rahib Ali Abro, Hidayatullah Abro, Inspector Nazeer Ahmed, Sepoys Dhani Bux, Shoil Ahmed Bhutto, Ajaz Bhutto, Khalil Ahmed and Driver Manzoor Mashori.

The ASO team intercepted a private vehicle near a checkpost of Jacobabad-Sukkur division and recovered said foreign origin non-duty-paid items. The market value of the goods is Rs1.2million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs592800.

Before the recovery of goods, the officials asked the driver for producing the documents regarding the legal import of the items but he could not prove anything lawful. The team confiscated the items under the Customs Act.

A case was registered against the accused. The case has been sent to the customs adjudication for further legal action. The ASO deposited the seized items into Sukkur-Larkana division State Warehouse.

Officials said that Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq had directed that effective measures should be taken for checking the smuggling in the region.
