Court approves physical remand of gold smuggler

LAHORE: Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan, the special judge of Customs and Taxation Court, handed over Muhammad Rizwan, an alleged smuggler, into the Customs custody for investigations.

The Customs Preventive had confiscated seven kilograms of gold from Muhammad Rizwan at the Allama Iqbal International Airport here on Wednesday morning near about 3am.

It is said that market value of seized gold is Rs 30 million. The passenger was arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-622.

The sources said that it is investigated that the passenger was a professional who smuggle gold for money from one country to another.

He was produced before the Customs Court where judge has approved his physical remand for further investigation on request of Customs investigation and prosecution team.

The Customs authorities registered second case of gold smuggling during November, making a total seizure of 11 kilograms of gold. Earlier, the Customs authorities seized four kilograms of gold from a passenger when he tried to smuggle the gold from Sharjah to Lahore.
