Court declares 7 suspects proclaimed offenders in ISAF containers case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has declared seven suspects as proclaimed offenders in “ISAF/NATO containers scam” in which Rs 4.729  million  duty/taxes were allegedly evaded.

The suspects, Noor Muhammad, Dr Khan, Yasir Abbasi, Muhammad Saleem, Abdul Qadir Khan Afridi, Adnan and Saifullah, were declared proclaimed offenders.

During the hearing, accused Rana Jamshad Ali and Sagheer Ahmed were present who are on interim pre-arrest bail vide orders dated August 04, 2011 and August 06, 2011. Accused Ali Akbar was also present on bail and accused Muhammad Akram was exempted vide order dated April 25, 2016; however, his council Pervaiz Mustafa was present to represent him. Muhammad Siddique Durrani was abated due to his death.

Investigation officer produced report of proclamation and the court has declared the suspects proclaim offenders under proclamation Section 88 C.r.p.c and adjourned the hearing for September 28, 2016.

It needs to be mentioned here that case was registered by the officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) pursuant to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s directions in Suo Moto case no 16/2010.

According to the prosecution, ascertained value of the offending goods was Rs 8,668,033 and evaded amount of duties and taxes were Rs 4,729,494.
