Court grants bail to suspects involved in export of gold worth billions of rupees on fake E-forms

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted post-arrest bail to two suspects in five cases pertaining to the export of gold worth billions of rupees on fake E-forms.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi approved the bail for Syed Tahir Hussain and Kamran Siddiqui with surety of Rs 200, 000 after the customs investigation officer informed him that there is no evidence regarding both accused persons’ involvement in the scam.

Earlier, the court had dismissed the applications filed by Kashan Iqbal, Hanif Musa, Sajid Abdul Qadir, Muhammad Shahid, Syed Tahir Hussain, Syed Abdul Qawi and Kamran Siddiqui, through which they sought confirmation of the interim bails granted to them by the court.

The court had sent the accused persons to the custody of customs investigation officer (IO) on four-day physical-remand for interrogation. The remand was extended for three days at the request of the IO. The IO produced the suspects before the court after their remand expired.  Subsequently, the court sent them to prison.

According to the details of the cases, the customs authorities had registered five cases against exporters, including Saani Impex, BD Enterprises and Rubab Corporation, Makkah Enterprises, M/s Reaz Corporation for exporting gold worth billions of rupees on fake e0-forms, causing huge losses to the national exchequer.
