The recent purchase of 13 million kilos of chicken meat to the United States from Cuba, suspended a two months ban, imposed when the Cuban government stopped importing due to an epidemic of bird flu.
Last June the Alimport Cuba, said Cuba would not accept deliveries of chicken in August and September, “taking into account the situation of animal health” in the United States, where more than 50 million birds have been culled to August of this year.
Exports of US chickens to Cuba, constituting about 50% of agricultural shipments to the island. In 2014 they were worth $ 147.5 million in 2014, according to a report of the Economic and Business Council US-Cuba.
In 2015, US exports of chicken to Cuba have fallen about 40 percent this year, the council said.
