Currency smuggler’s remand extended

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has again approved a 14-day judicial remand of a suspect, Qaiser Iqbal, who is allegedly involved in currency smuggling case.

Qaisar Iqbal was arrested by the Customs authorities from Lahore airport while he was making an attempt to smuggle a huge amount of foreign currency from Pakistan to a Gulf state through a private airline.

During checking of his luggage, the customs officials found dollars, Euros and pounds worth Rs 22 million. A case under Section 156, (1), (68), (70), 157 and 178 of Pakistan Customs Act 1969 was registered against him at Lahore Investigation and Prosecution.

Earlier, he was on 14-day judicial remand after completion of physical remand. Now, Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan has extended his judicial remand for 14 days.
