Custom ASO foils attempt to smuggle huge quantity of contraband items

KARACHI: Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) recovered huge quantity of smuggled contraband items worth millions of rupees in a successful raid.

According to the details, on the tip-off, Deputy Collector Muhammad Faisal constituted a team to conduct a raid over the received information. The team of ASO under the supervision of deputy collector beefed up the surveillance and tightened the security at the entry and exit points of the city.

The staff of ASO in pursuance of actionable intelligence intercepted a passenger bus Al Haris Coach bearing registration No JB-1945 on suspicion at Moachko chowk point and asked the drivers regarding the legal documents which he failed to provide.

The Customs Preventive office informed Customs Today that during the search of the vehicle the customs team found eighty tyres of assorted size worth Rs528,617/, 320 dandas of cigarettes worth Rs480,000/, 3323 meters of assorted cloth weighing 565 kilograms worth Rs408,382.

At least 470 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts worth Rs130,660 were also recovered during the raid and the total cost and freight (C&F)  value of seized goods is Rs1,547,659, added the Customs Preventive officer.

The tentative value of the bus Al Haris Coach bearing registration No JB-1945 is Rs7000,000. During the raid, two culprits along with driver are also arrested. The case has been filed and further investigation is underway.
