Custom court accepts charge-sheets against two women booked in smuggling cases

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi accepted the charge-sheets against accused ladies namely Samina Rafiq w/o Rafiq Ahmed Ansari and Shahina Sattar d/o Sattar Ahmed who were booked in separate two cases of attempting to smuggle contraband mobile phones and auto parts from Dubai into Karachi.

During the hearing, investigation officer submitted the charges-sheets and informed the court that on credible information, staff of the customs department intercepted the ladies at the International Jinnah Airport Karachi and recovered non-duty paid 47 Samsung mobile phones, 18 LG mobile phones, 20 kg auto parts valued Rs1452000 from accused Samina Rafiq and 45 Samsung mobile phones and 25 empty boxes of mobile phones valued Rs961000 from Shahina Sattar.

He further informed the court that during the investigation, accused were asked to produce legal documents, however they failed to do this, so the customs authorities seized the goods and arrested both ladies.

After his arguments, court accepted the charge-sheets and adjourned the matter for further proceedings.

According to the prosecution, two cases were registered against them in violation of Section 2 (s) 16 and 139 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & 70 of Section 156 (i) ibid.
