Custom Court directs official to complete investigation in Toyota Land Cruiser case

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the investigation officer to complete investigation and submit a challan against absconding accused persons namely Moazzam Mazhar Faruqui and Shujaatullah Khan in a case of non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser.

During the hearing, the investigation officer submitted that the suspect could not be arrested and the Custom Department was trying to arrest them. After the arguments, the court directed investigation officer to arrest them and complete investigation. The court also directed him to submit a challan on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, the staff of the anti-smuggling department recovered Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep bearing registration BF-8154 model 1996 from Boot Basin Clifton, Karachi which was involved in evasion of duty and taxes of Rs 2.37 million.

The case was registered complainant by Azhar Malik, senior preventive officer, Custom House Karachi under section 2 (s) 32 and 178 of customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (89) and 14 of section 156 ibid.
