Custom Court extends physical remand of suspect in tax evasion case

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has extended the physical remand of a suspect, Muhammad Fahad, representative of M/s AAA Package till February 2, 2017 and gave him into the custody of the Custom Department. The suspect is allegedly involved in a case of duty and taxes evasion of Rs 2.7 million.

During the hearing, Inspector Ijaz Khan produced accused before the court and informed that investigation has not been completed yet, therefore, prosecution needs his further physical remand.

After the hearing, the court granted his requested and sent him to the custody of the Custom Department again. The court also directed the investigation officer to produce the suspect on the next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against Muhammad Fahad of M/s AAA Package and three others Burhan Uddin Azeem, Muhammad Aziz and Qadir under section 32, 32A, 16 & 197 of the customs act, section 219 of customs act 1969, read with/ chapter 3 of chapter XII of customs rules 2001, notified vide SRO 450 (1) 2001 dated 18/06/2010 punishable under clauses (1) (43) and (86) of section (1) of the customs act, 1969.

It needs to be mentioned here that only accused Muhammad Fahad has been arrested and all other suspects are still absconders.
