Custom Court postpones over 20 cases due to massacre at shrine

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Monday postponed the hearing of customs and income tax related cases due to massacre at the shrine of Shah Norani in Khuzdar, Balochistan in which at least 52 people were killed and 102 were injured in an alleged suicide bombing.

More than 20 cases were fixed before the court, however, the court was informed by the representative of the bar associations that due to massacre at shrine of Shah Norani, the Sindh Bar Council has announced full day strike and black day. The lawyers requested the court for general adjournment; therefore, the court postponed the hearing of all cases without any proceedings.

It needs to be mentioned here that on Saturday evening the explosion took place at the spot where the dhamaal (Sufi ritual) was being performed, within the premises of the shrine. At the time of the blast, there were at least 500 people gathered at the spot to view the performance.

The shrine is frequented by a large number of devotees on Friday, and is visited by people from across the country. Iranian nationals also frequent the shrine. It is approximately 150 kilometres from Karachi.
