KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Wednesday sent seven suspects on physical remand until December 13, 2016. The suspects were allegedly involved in smuggling of 9,000 litres diesel through wooden boat.
During the hearing, Investigation Officer Azhar Malik produced the suspects, Abdul Hanan, Momin Khan, Syed Ameen Khan, Gulam Khaliq, Badshah Mehmood and Muhammad Ayyaz, in the court. He submitted that the customs authorities succeeded in capturing the boat near Mubarak Village Karachi and recovered 9,000 liters of diesel.
The officer informed the court that after recovery of diesel, the customs authorities arrested the accused persons and seized the diesel along with wooden boat Al-Battail BFD 12344.
He further informed the court that the alleged owner of the boat, Abdul Aziz, is absconder and financer abettors and others to be ascertained during the investigation. He requested the court to send the suspect on a 14-day physical remand.
After the arguments, the court sent the suspect on physical remand and directed the investigation officer to produce them in the court on the next hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, the value of diesel has been estimated at Rs 675,000 and the boat at Rs 5 million.
According to the prosecution, a case has been registered by Senior Preventive Officer Azhar Malik, under Section (5) read with Section 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid.
