Custom Court sends alleged currency smuggler on remand

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi sent an accused person namely as Fahad Tayyab to jail on judicial remand in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign currency from Dubai to Karachi.

During the hearing, investigation officer of the case produced the accused person before the court and informed that on credible information the customs staff intercepted him at Karachi airport and during the examination recovered 150,000 Saudi Riyal from his possession.

The investigation officer further informed the court that during the investigation, it was proved that the above named accused person is involved in attempting to smuggle foreign currency tentative value of Rs 4.2 million.

He said that after fulfilling all formalities case was registered against him on violation of Section 2 (s) and 16 of the Custom Act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) (89) of the 156 (i) ibid read with notification of State Bank of Pakistan.

After the arguments of the officer, the court sent him to jail and directed the investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
