Custom Court sends cell phones’ smuggler on physical remand

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect namely Muhammad Asim on physical remand till November 11, 2016 who was arrested for attempting to smuggle 114 mobile phones worth Rs 1.228 million.

On Friday, investigation officer produced the accused before the court and requested for his physical remand; therefore, the court granted his request and sent the accused to the jail on physical remand.

According to the prosecution, on credible information officials of the custom department intercepted the accused person and during the examination of his bag recovered 114 contraband mobile phones, including Samsung, Motorola, Huwewi, HTC and mobile phones batteries total worth Rs 1,228, 448.

A case was registered by senior preventive officer Muhammad Shafique on violation of Section (s) and 16 of the Custom Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) of section 156 (i) ibid, read with SRO-666 (1)/2006 dated June 28, 2006 & section 3 (iii) of Import and Export (control) Act, 1950.
