Custom seizes foreign currency, 400 gallons of imported paint

KARACHI: Gwadar Modal Customs Collectorate has seized foreign currency and imported paint during two successful raids.

Gwadar Collector Saeed Akrem received information a huge amount of imported currency was smuggled through a passengers van in the area of Orakzai . The Collector sought the Assistant Collector Wajaht Hussain and told him about the information. Wajaht Hussain formed a team under his own supervision and established check-points at the inner and exit points of the Orakzai. The team started the checking of vehicles at check points and intercepted a suspected passenger van. During the search of the van the team recovered million Americans and Canadian dollars. The officials seized the amount and arrested three persons who were involved in smuggling. The customs officials told that the value of seized dollars is equal to Pakistani rupee Rs 25.6 million. During the investigation of the accused they told that these all currency brought at Gwadar through the sea ways of Iran.

In another operation, Customs Colletorate of Gwadar has confiscated a huge consignment of imported paint. Collector Gwadar received information a huge consignment of Italian non-duty paid paint were smuggling. He informed the Deputy collector about received information and formed a team under his supervision to curb the smuggling. The customs team established check-points at the exit point of the city and started the checking of vehicles. During the checking of vehicles the team intercepted a truck. While the search of the trick the team found more than 400 gallons of on-duty paid imported paint. The team seized 400 gallons of paint and arrested two persons. The officials said that the estimated value of seized paint is more than Rs1 million.
