Customs Adjudication issues notice to Imtiaz Provision Store on tax evasion

KARACHI: Deputy Collector Adjudication-I has served a ‘Show Cause Notice’ on M/s. Imtiaz Provision Store, Karachi on a contravention report submitted by Directorate General of Customs Investigation and Intelligence, Karachi regarding the clearance of Rani Juice without paying the sales tax.

The reputed provision store had cleared the contravening consignment vide GD No.KAPE-HC-109113 dated 16-01-2015. The subject goods were imported into 2X20 feet containers.

The importers have claimed exemption of sales tax against Serial No. 26 of Sixth Schedule which in fact is not permissible to tinned or packaged imported fruit juices.

The goods were cleared through Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-West, Karachi.

The recoverable amount of sales tax worked out to be to the tune of Rs. 604,813. The case is fixed for hearing next week.
