Customs AFU foils attempt to smuggle 1846 cell phones from Allama Iqbal Airport

LAHORE: Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) confiscated as many as 1846 costly mobile phone from a passenger who was coming from Abu Dhabi to Lahore via Etihad Airways flight.

Sources told Customs Today that a team of Customs AFU conducted operation in flight coming from Abu Dhabi to Lahore on Wednesday.

Customs team checked the luggage of a family and found huge quantity of cell phones hidden in bags of family. Sources told that an officer of PIA was involved in helping the family to pass the bag from airport. Sources said that Group V officer Nasarullah was caught red handed by customs authorities. Two women successfully flee from the spot.

Customs authorities has arrested Nasarullah and shifted him to unknown place for further investigation and prosecution. Customs told that worth of the cell phones is in millions of rupees and accused has made huge loss to the national kitty by smuggling the consignment.

On other hand during actions in different flights customs staff recovered 6 bottles of alcohol. Customs allowed all passengers to go after confiscation of alcohol bottles from their possession.

Customs has started strict checking of the luggage of the passengers specially coming from European countries.
