PESHAWAR: The customs clearing and forwarding agents have requested the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman to transfer the NATO container disappearance cases from Karachi to Peshawar due to travelling issues.

The agents also claimed that there is still no progress in the cases due to political involvement and NAB has so far been unsuccessful in proving the accusation of container theft against customs clearing and forwarding agents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh.

It is important to mention here that FBR member customs Hafiz Muhammad Anis had compiled a report that around 28,000 shipping containers of NATO troops had disappeared in Pakistan, however, an inquiry conducted by Dr Shoaib Suddle put the number of missing containers at 7,922.

The customs agents said that the cases had been pending for two years after NAB filed a reference.

“NAB has charged around 450 customs clearing and forwarding agents in the cases and even if one of them is absent at court, the proceedings don’t take place,” they said.

The requested NAB as it had regional offices in all provinces so it should order the transfer of container disappearance cases to the respective regional office.
