Customs Appellate Tribunal chairman to resume hearing of cases from May 2

ISLAMABAD: Customs Appellate Tribunal Chairman Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain would resume proceedings at Islamabad headquarters by coming Tuesday. The chairman would visit the tribunal’s headquarters in the capital for three days from May 2 to 4.

During his stay at the headquarters, the chairman would hear a plenty of cases challenging announcements from field offices of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). He would head tribunal’s single and division benches during his stay. Besides hearing the cases, the chairman would also oversee administrative matters of the tribunal staffers.

During recent visit, he had reserved decisions on several cases while adjourned the hearing of many other cases as single bench and in a division bench along with Member Ziauddin Wazir.

Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain and Ziaudding Wazir reserved decisions on cases filed by M/s Trade Master, M/s Waseem Autos, M/s Nisar Traders, M/s Parts and Parts, M/s Chief Autos, M/s Aman Elahi, and M/s Kohinoor Traders had filed these references.

M/s Trade Master had filed case against customs collectorate only. All of other appellants had filed cases against DGI&I. M/s Kohinoor Traders had filed two cases against DGI&I, Islamabad.

Tribunal had also reserved decision on M/s Wahid Hamid. It had filed case against Customs Peshawar for auctioning imported items despite the tribunal had announced a decision for release of them.

Chairman, Justice (R) Malik Manzoor Hussain also held hearing on cases filed against Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence, Islamabad and Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad and Peshawar. M/s Pakistan Royal Group, M/s Irfan Ullah and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad had filed these cases.

The appellants had filed cases challenging announcements made by the DGI&I, Islamabad. All three cases were filed in 2016.

M/s Pakistan Royal Group and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad had asked the tribunal to direct the department to release the imported items which were confiscated by the customs authorities under alleged attempts to smuggling.

Chairman adjourned hearing on cases involving Collectorate of Customs and Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations, Islamabad.

These cases were filed by M/s Waseem Autos, M/s Nisar Traders, M/s Parts & Parts, M/s Chief Autos, M/s Aman Elahi, M/s Kohinoor Traders, M/s Saleem Silk Centre, M/s Five Star Trading, M/s Pakistan Royal Group and M/s Nayatel Private Limited, M/s Degicell & others, M/s Kohinoor Chemical, Mirza Muhammad Majid, M/s Fazal Razaq, M/s Fazalur Rehman and Gul Rehman & others.

The appellants had filed cases against Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence, Islamabad and Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad.
