Customs Appellate Tribunal to hear cases of duty evasion, smuggling of foreign currency today

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal Bench-II, Islamabad, will hear cases involving duty evasion and smuggling of foreign currency on Wednesday (today).

A division bench of the Customs Appellate Tribunal, comprising of members, Muhammad Maqsood ul Hassan and Muhammad Nasir Khan will hear the cases filed by M/s AMSON Vaccines, Jamshed Alam and Adil Khan. These had been filed through Advocate Naeem Qazi.

M/s AMSON Vaccines had filed petition challenging customs department orders panelizing it for paying short-duty in head of different imported items.

Appellants, Jamshed Alam and Adil Khan, had made customs collectorate, Islamabad, respondent in their petitions challenging its decision before the tribunal. The customs authorities had punished them under allegation of smuggling foreign currency, worth Rs 6 million.

Meanwhile, the bench would also hear a petition filed by Gabruddin and Company, Karachi. According to details, the appellant was found involved in evading duty of Rs 5 million while importing Ginger in 1994.

This case had been recently remanded-back to the tribunal from Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Meanwhile, the tribunal adjourned hearing of cases it heard on Tuesday. These cases included petitions of Muhammad Usman ul Haq and Zaman ul Haq praying the tribunal to handover their vehicles from customs department’s custody.
