ISLAMABAD: Division and single benches headed by Customs Appellate Tribunal chairman Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain decided around 30 cases by mid of October.
Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain, after assuming charge in July, started hearing old cases first. By mid of October, he had decided around 30 cases while heading different benches which were pending for months due to absence of the tribunal’s chairman.
According to details, different benches of customs appellate tribunal had heard around 30. Out of these cases, 10 were dismissed, 17 were accepted and three cases were remanded back.
The cases which were accepted comprised of two references filed by the Collectorate of Customs, while 15 were filed by various private appellants. Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain decided two cases in favor of MCC, who had filed the cases too, and decided 15 others in favor of private appellants.
Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain had dismissed 8 cases dismissed filed by MCC. The bench also dismissed two other cases being contested by private appellants. The tribunal also remanded back couple of cases filed by the department and another which was filed by a private appellant.
Aftab Ahmed, Dr SaeedUllah, M Akram and Brothers, M/s Digicell, M/s Mobo International, Zubair Ahmed, M/s Amir & International, Sajid Qayyum, Ghulam Gous, Deputy Collector Customs, Dry Port, Islamabad, M/s Pak Gulf Construction Private Limited, M/s Frontier Cable, M/s Mughal Steel, Raja Nabeel Razzaq, and others had filed these cases.
M/s Pak Gulf Construction Private Limited had filed a case for release of imported panel sheets, commonly used for buildings outer renovation. The bench reserved the decision after receiving report from an evaluation committee. The appellant had filed the cases against MCC, Islamabad.
M/s Frontier Cable had filed a case challenging re-evaluation of imported goods. The appellant had filed the case against MCC, Islamabad.
M/s Mughal Steel also had filed the cases regarding release of imported goods worth over Rs 5,000,000. This case was filed against MCC, Islamabad.
Raja Nabeel Razaq had filed a case for release of vehicle confiscated by the customs authorities. This case was filed against Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations, Islamabad. The bench reserved the decision after hearing arguments from sides and submission of documents by the department.
