Customs arrests Afghan smuggler, recovers $55,000

PESHAWAR: Custom authorities and Khsaddar force arrested an Afghan smuggler and recovered $55000 from his possession.

According to details, a bid of smuggling of American dollars from Pakistan to Afghanistan was foiled by the border security force here at Torkham border of Landikotal, Khyber Agency, sources informed.

The Torkham administration officials said, the Khasadar troops and custom authorities were executing their official duties when they stopped an Afghanistan bound person for checking.

During search $55000 were recovered, which were concealed under his cloths. The currency was took into custody and allegedly smuggler identified as Waris s/o Purdal, who is an Afghan national, sources said. A case was lodged against him and he was sent to Landikotal lock-up for further investigation, sources said.

It is pertinent to state that since long smuggling of foreign currency, including Saudi riyals and US dollars through Western border to Afghanistan is on the rise putting a negative impact on Pakistan economy.
