Customs I&I foils attempt to smuggle narcotics near Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of narcotics worth Rs1.9 million and vehicle amounting to Rs0.6 million on Tuesday.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Dr. Arslan Subatgeen received a credible information that huge quantity of narcotics would be smuggled to Punjab through a vehicle via GT Road.  He immediately directed the drug-enforcement cell of Customs I&I to enhance surveillance. The Customs I&I team established a check post near Pabbi Nowshera. During checking of vehicles the Customs I&I team intercepted a Daihatsu Coure bearing registration no: LZC-4202 which was coming from Peshawar side. The I&I staff signaled a vehicle to stop but the driver ignored the same and sped away.

After chase by the staff, the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and successfully escape from the spot. The Customs I&I team during search recovered huge quantity of opium and charas which was tactfully hidden in the CNG tank of the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to the premises of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) office.

Sources told that the estimated value of seized narcotics is Rs1.9 million. Customs Intelligence and Investigation lodged FIR against accused persons and started investigations.
