Customs ASO foils bid to smuggle huge quantity of Afghan Transit Trade goods

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs registered FIR against three smugglers who attacked on the Motorway police officials after they intercepted passenger bus carrying huge quantity of Afghan transit trade smuggled goods.

According to details told by sources of MCC that on the secret information shared by the collector that a passenger bus coming from the FATA side bearing registration number LES-15-333 will try to transport huge quantity of smuggled goods via Motorway. The said information was shared with the Assistant Collector Fahad Iqbal Rao who formed a squad and informed the Motorway Police that bus may escape by the Customs ASO squad whereas at the same time the AC made a ‘nakabandi’ on Motorway near Kalarkhar rest area.

It was informed that ASO squad saw the passenger bus which was coming from Peshawar side and signaled it to stop but the driver ignored and geared up the speed and tried to escape but Motorway police chased and stopped the bus. When Motorway police stopped the bus the driver and helpers of the bus attacked the Motorway officials who arrested the drivers and helper of passenger bus. In the process driver Adam Khan and Abdul Rehman got minor injuries.

The sources further told that in the meantime ASO squad also reached the spot where Motorway Police handed over the smugglers including passenger bus along with smuggled goods to the ASO staff. After thorough checking the Customs staff found 32 sacks of black tea 550 kg, 113 cartons of foreign origin soaps 2034 kg, 13 cartons of foreign origin key locks, 50 cartons of foreign origin Denson power tonic, 156 cartons of shampoo and 4500 numbers of cycle chains.

The above said seized goods were identified as Afghan Transit trade smuggled goods which were seized along with passenger bus in presence of witnesses on spot while FIR registered against the accused named Abdul Qader, Abdul Rehman and Adam Khan residents of Peshawar KPK (Khyber Pakhtunkhawa) under section 178,157,(89),(85),(1) 156 of Customs Act of 1969.

The ASO staff led by Assistant Collector comprised Superintendent Matloob Shah, Inspectors Muhammad Ali Shah and Junaid Khalid along with Sepoys Gulam Rasool, Razwan Rasheed, Murtaza and Adil Mumtaz took part in said seizure worth Rs 2 million whereas case was forwarded to the I&P (Investigation and Prosecution) Department for further investigation.
