Customs ASO impounds CDs/DVDs worth Rs5.3m

ISLAMABAD: Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled a smuggling attempt and recovered foreign origin CDs/DVDs of worth RS 5.3 million during an operation at Burhan Interchange. The operation was a joint action of ASO and Motorway Police.

Deputy Collector ASO Shahid Jan told Customs Today that in pursuance of information provided by collector office that a truck loaded with foreign origin CDs/DVDs is heading towards Islamabad from Peshawar. He immediately constituted a squad comprising Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and Matloob Hussain Shah along with sepoys and drivers.

The ASO team started checking vehicles at Burhan Interchange and contacted Motorway Police to help in checking the vehicles. The Motorway Police team was supervised by Deputy Inspector General Imtiaz Shah.

During checking, the team intercepted a Bedford truck bearing registration No: C-1048 Nowshera loaded with 230 cartons of foreign origin CDs/DVDs. The ASO team asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of CDs/DVDs. The driver failed to provide any required legal document. After his failure, the ASO team impounded the loaded items and offending truck and registered a case of smuggling against the accused.

The seized items include 2300 kilogram CDs/DVDs worth Rs 3.3 million and the vehicle worth Rs 2 million. The ASO team forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan added that it was his last operation under the ASO office. Shahid Jan has now been transferred to Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU).
