Customs ASO impounds smuggled two jeeps from Mughalpura Dry Port

LAHORE: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has impounded two smuggled jeeps during a raid at Mughalpura Dry Port, sources told Customs Today here on Thursday.

The sources said that on information, ASO Asistant Collector Asim Awan constituted a team led by Superintendent Waqar Cheema and the team taking timely legal action confiscated the jeeps. The clearance documents of the jeeps were not available.

The customs authorities were informed that the two jeeps were brought to Mughalpura Dry Port either on train or by road. The sources said that the jeeps were carrying number plates of Balochistan and it is yet to be determined either these plates are fake or original. The authorities have sent the jeeps to the forensic laboratory for test after registering a case of smuggling. Sources said that as first half of current fiscal year is going to end customs authorities enhanced their efforts to collect more revenue.

Meanwhile, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation has transferred three officials to the Collectorate of Customs Preventive. The sources said that the transferred officials are Superintendent Yasin Malik, Inspector Mansoor Ellahi and Sepoy Naseer. The officials will assume their duties within a day or two.
