Customs ASO seizes vehicles, goods worth Rs 31.7m in August

LAHORE: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of Customs Collectorate Preventive, Lahore seized smuggled/ non-duty paid vehicles and goods worth Rs 31.7 million during August 2016.

As per details, the anti-smuggling authorities registered cases worth Rs 12.075 million during August 2015. The organization registered cases worth Rs 71.60 million during the period from July 2016 to August 2016 whereas cases valuing Rs 58.094 million were made during the corresponding period of the financial year 2015-16.

The department registered an increase of Rs 19.69 million as compared with August 2015 and Rs 13.5 million as compared with the corresponding period of the year 2015-16.

The crackdowns against the smugglers were conducted on the direction of Assistant Collector Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan.

Other Customs Superintendent Waqar Ahmad Cheema, Deputy Superintendent Ejaz Rasool and Inspectors Farooq and Irfan Mayo were also the part of the raiding team

Sources told Customs Today that Chief Collector of Customs Samaira Nazir is taking keen interest in curbing the smuggling activities in Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore.

Sources said that the chief collector emphasized on the need of curtailing the menace of smuggling so that legal business could flourish.

Similarly, collector of customs has instructed ASO Lahore to adopt zero tolerance policy against the smuggling activities.

It was reported that the chief collector has been engaged especially on the issue of smuggling with other collectors working under her supervision and monitoring personally all the progress in reduction of smuggling.
