Customs busts smuggling of 4 tonnes of tobacco, 46 kg marijuana

Inspectors of the General Authority of Customs (GAC) have seized 46 kilograms of marijuana and four tonnes of banned tobacco through eleven inspections at the Customs Departments at the Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Hamad Port.
Chairman of General Authority of Customs Ahmed bin Abdullah al Gammal honoured 10 employees from the customs administrations for their efforts in the seizures, thanking them for their efforts in uncovering the large quantity of narcotics and illicit substances.
He pointed out that the Authority provides all support and training for its staff to equip them with the knowledge of the latest methods of smuggling adopted by the perpetrators.
The marijuana was seized through seven inspections at the Hamad International Airport and two air cargo consignments. The item was discovered by the customs officer in the shipment of fabrics and sleeping blankets.
At the Hamad Port, four tonnes of banned tobacco were seized. The item was discovered through two inspections. The first was a shipment of electric heaters containing 2,873 kilograms of tobacco. The second was a shipment of steel boxes containing 1,149 kilograms of tobacco.
