Customs Court accepts challan in tablets & contraband goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court accepted interim charge sheet against seven suspects, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid Indian tablets and other contraband goods.

On February 6, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Preventive submitted interim charge sheet and informed the court that on information, customs officials intercepted three non-duty paid Toyota Surf jeeps bearing registration nos: BF-0150, FB 1429 and BF-2096.

He further submitted that during the search, customs team also found 147 PP bags containing betel nuts total 3381 kilograms worth Rs899,346, 47, a box containing 2350 strips of relief tablets (Indian origin) total 23500 tablets and 1 carton containing Penegra tablets (Indian origin) 7520 tablets.

He argued that no documents regarding the lawful import/purchase/procurement/transportation of the recovered goods were produced by anyone, therefore, suspects namely Abdul Sattar, Ahmed, Ahmed Ullah, Daro Khan, Abdul Bari and Abdul Baqi were taken into custody and case was registered.

After the hearing, court accepted interim charge sheet against them and directed to complete investigation and submit final challan on next date of hearing.
