Customs Court accepts challan of satellite receivers smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non bail-able warrants against suspect namely Sudham, CEO of M/s Modern (Bunty) Electronics Shaheed Ganj Sukkur, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle and sale of satellite receivers (C Line)/DTH equipment in open market used to broadcast Indian channels, and transfer of money charged against these services and shifting to abroad through illegal channels.

On November 09, 2018, investigation officer of FIA submitted interim charge sheet and informed that on actionable information, a team of FIA raided electronics market Shaheed Ganj Sukkur and found 60 illegal satellite receivers (C Line) and other goods.

He further submitted that during the investigation, it was revealed that said seized goods can not be imported into Pakistan legally. The restricted goods brought into Pakistan illegally by the above mentioned accused persons.

He further informed the court that investigation is in progress and after completion, its outcome shall also be communicated/shared with FIA and PEMRA for further course of action to be adopted in invoking the relevant section of PPC, PECA, Anti-Money Laundering Act/FERA, after proper interrogation of accused persons and the hawala operators etc, as envisaged under the relevant laws. He argued that prosecution is trying its best to arrest said accused and produce before the court.

After the hearing, court accepted interim challan sheet and issued non bail-able warrants against him.
