Customs Court accepts interim challan against accused involved in betel nuts smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court accepted charge sheet against suspects Muhammad Hanif and Munir Ahmed, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 19950 kilograms betel nuts and other goods.

On November 22, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive submitted interim charge sheet against above-mentioned suspects and informed the court that on an actionable information that a Nissan trailer bearing registration no: TLN-996 loaded with a container containing smuggled/non-duty paid betel nuts is arriving from Multan to Karachi via Super Highway. ASO team intercepted the said trailer and searched the same.

He submitted that during the search, ASO team recovered 19950 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs5,180,750 and during the raid, accused were asked to provide lawful documents, however, they failed the produce any documents, therefore, they were arrested and goods were taken into custody.

After the hearing, the court accepted interim challan and directed him to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet on next date of hearing.
