Customs Court adjourns bail plea of alleged currency smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned bail plea of a suspect who was arrested on the charges of currency smuggling.

According to the details, an accused namely Shafqat Ali Ihsan was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore while he was allegedly making an attempt to smuggle foreign currency equivalent to Pakistani Rs 130 million. The currency was concealed in his bags in a very technical way.

He had filed a post-arrest bail plea before the Customs Court that was rejected by Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan.

Shafqat Ali Ihsan has also moved his bail petition before Lahore High Court (LHC) where Justice Shamas Mhemood Mirza did not hear the case due to legal reasons. Justice Shamas Mehmood Mirza had sent the case back to LHC chief justice to hand over case to any other bench.
