Customs Court adjourns cell phone smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling adjourned hearing of mobile phones smuggling case.

The special court has adjourned the hearing of smuggling case against Naveed Bhatti. Earlier, the court had approved extension in judicial remand of Bhatti who was arrested by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International airport when he was making an attempt to smuggle 170 cell phones of assorted brands from China to Lahore.

The Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) team of Lahore Customs had presented the accused Naveed Bhatti before the special court and asked for his physical remand of five days for interrogation. After completion of physical remand, the court sent him to jail on judicial trial, which was extended again for 14 days.

The mobile phones were hidden in bottles of water which the passenger claimed that he brought that water from Saudi Arabia, it was added. The sources said that the total value of the mobile phones has been estimated at Rs 5 million.
