Customs Court adjourns cell phone smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Thursday adjourned hearing of mobile phones smuggling case.

Earlier, the court had approved extension in judicial remand of accused, Naveed Bhatti, who was arrested by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International Airport while making an attempt to smuggle cell phones from China to Lahore.

The Investigation and Prosecution team presented the accused before the special court and asked for physical remand of five days to interrogate him. After completion of physical remand, the court sent him to jail for judicial trial that was extended for 14 days.

As per the details, the Customs Preventive staff intercepted the persons at the airport for checking and recovered 170 android mobile phones of assorted types from his luggage.

The mobile phones were hidden in bottles of water which the passenger claimed that he brought that water from Saudi Arabia, it was added. The total value of the mobile phones has been estimated at Rs 5 million.
