LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted a 14-day judicial remand of two accused arrested in smuggling of mobile phones and some other items as well from Lahore.
Accused Muhammad Naveed and Muhammad Faisal were held by the customs intelligence authorities from Lahore. The customs intelligence has found mobile phones of different models in the warehouse of the accused. Sources of Customs Today said that the worth of the smuggled mobile phones is more than Rs6million in the local market. Sources said they were intercepted by the customs authorities at Hall Road area. The customs intelligence authorities conducted an operation on the intelligence based information and apprehended both accused. The customs intelligence also recovered smuggled and non-custom-paid accessories from the possession of the accused.
The customs recovered 340,000 mobile phone chargers, hand-frees and data cables from a warehouse belonged to the accused. The accused have caused the national kitty a big financial loss.
The investigation team had presented them before the customs court on 20th of November for getting their physical remand to investigate more on the issue that was approved by the court. Customs Judge Tahir Sabir approved their remand for three days. After the completion of the remand, customs team presented them again before the court on Thursday. The court sent them to prison on judicial remand for further trial.
The customs authorities have registered a case against them under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
