Customs Court approves after arrest bail to suspects in HSD oil smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved after arrest bail to suspects namely Muhammad Iqbal son of Muhammad Aziz Khan owner of oil tanker, Fazal Ur Rehman son of Muhammad Aziz Khan and Abdul Mateem son of Ahmed and directed them to make sure attend the court for each and every date of hearing those who are nominated in first information report (FIR) for smuggling 15,000 litters high speed diesel.

On 23 February 2022, during the hearing, investigation officer submitted a progress report and informed the court that a specific information was received in the office of directorate general intelligence & investigation-customs to the effect that huge quantity of smuggled/ non-duty paid Iran Origin high speed diesel oil would be transported through Isuzu oil tanker, which was loaded from the secret private deport situated near Yousaf Goth, Karachi for its further disposed and illegal sale.

He added that on said information, customs officials intercepted said oil tanker bearing registration no TTB-398 and during the search, found 15,000 litters HSD Oil market value of Rs. 2, 124, 300 and after formalities, arrested above mentioned accused and registered first information report against them.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigation from said accused, therefore, court may send them to customs department, however, after the hearing, court them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report for next date of hearing.

After submission of charge sheet, counsel for the accused persons moved after arrest bail applications and argued that his clients are innocent and have been falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to face trail, therefore, court may grant their after arrest bail till final order in this case.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s), 16 & 157 (2) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8), (9) & (89) of sub section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 of the customs act, 1969.
